Resurrection Priests Attending Clergy Study Week

This coming week Fr. Bob and Fr. Allen will join Bishop McGrath and the other priests and deacons of the Diocese of San Jose for the annual Clergy Study Week.  It will take place at St. Francis Retreat Center in San Juan Bautista from the afternoon of Monday, May 14th, through lunchtime on Friday, May 18th. (Father Joe Vanthu, who is retired, and Fr. Dennis, who is on loan to us from the Diocese of Monterey, will not be attending the study week.)

The diocese has arranged for the coverage of hospital emergencies during the Study Week.  Fr. Dennis and Fr. Donald Allen (a retired Maryknoll priest) will handle any parish emergencies.  We are also fortunate here at Resurrection in that, since  Fr. Joe and Fr. Dennis will still be here, we won’t have to cancel any of our weekday Masses.

The Clergy Study week is a tradition that goes back to the early days of the Diocese of San Jose.  It provides a great opportunity for the priests and deacons of the diocese to be updated on topics related to theology and parish ministry.  It presents a valuable forum for communication between the priests and the bishop & diocesan offices and among the priests themselves on topics of common concern.  And, in a diocese where a great number of our clergy have come from other parts of the U.S. or from other countries, the Study Week is a chance for the priests and deacons of the diocese to get to know each other and to learn how to work together more effectively.

Part of the focus for this year’s Study Week will be some modules of Steven Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” Our presenter for this part of the week will be Bryan Froehle, professor in the School of Theology and Ministry at the University of Saint Thomas in Miami.

Please keep our diocesan clergy and the success of the Study Week in your prayers.
