Maintenance Projects or Capital Development – Is There a Difference? (Part 2)

Last month we reported on the many maintenance projects that have recently been completed and on the on-going need for regularly scheduled church, school and rectory maintenance. While all regular maintenance continues quietly and behind the scenes, our capital campaign projects are progressing nicely, with the highest priority project recently completed.

Crown Caps Resurrection Church Roof Project –

It seems like a distant memory when we would view the badly disintegrating, cracked and crumbling foam church roof. However, it has only been a few weeks since the weather started to cooperate and allow the roof replacement to commence. This last week the crown was completed and Resurrection received final permit signoff from the City of Sunnyvale. Some parishioners may even ask, “Did we really replace the roof” given the great job Statewide Roofing did in completing the project within budget and on time with little or no disruption to our daily or weekly church visits. The final cost to replace the roof and a brand new crown, including all labor, materials, warranty and permit fees, came in at $160,520 – amazingly close to the original budgetary estimate of $150,000!

Parking Lot Lighting Project Enters Engineering Phase –

Our second priority in the capital campaign effort is the parking lot and parish grounds lighting. Two engineering firms have submitted bids to define the specifics of our lighting solution and prepare a document for electrical contractors to bid the project. Our expectation is to complete this first phase by mid to late June, allowing sufficient time to complete the project before fall when the days get shorter. One subset of the overall lighting project, the walkway lighting along the Cascade church entrance, has already been completed at a cost of $7,900.
