Capital Development Projects

[UPDATE:  Statewide Roofing is now planning to begin the replacement of our church roof on Monday, April 4th.  We will keep you updated on the progress of their work.]

On January 30th we reported on the top priority of our Capital Development Project – the church roof replacement. Progress is right on schedule!  On February 2nd the contractor “roof walk” was held with four roofing companies in attendance. Bids were submitted and the public bid opening was held on February 9th. The bids ranged in cost from $145,000 to $225,000. Per diocese policy, the low bid was accepted and the project awarded to Statewide Roofing. Statewide has done previous roofing work for the parish, rectory and school – we are confident in their ability to deliver quality workmanship.  In addition to the roof replacement, it was determined that the “crown” needed to be replaced as well adding an estimated $17,000 to the total cost. You can expect to see the work start in the next several weeks.

Other facilities projects identified

Including the roof, the facility committee has identified and prioritized 17 separate projects with two already underway – replacement of the church’s aged galvanized plumbing and painting the chapel.

A recent broken water pipe and minor flood at the main church entrance motivated an evaluation of all church piping and necessitated the decision to re-pipe the entire church. In addition to new copper throughout the church, new lavatory fixture will also be installed. This project started last week at a cost of $19,000.

The chapel is long overdue for a fresh coat of paint and the work has begun. We are blessed to have Stevens Design & Contracting leading this effort. Owner Steve Giotta has envisioned a three color natural palette emphasizing desert colors. The painting will include the walls and some chapel furniture. Steve will also evaluate the current lighting scheme to highlight the new colors and statues. Scaffolding, prep and paint has begun. Project cost is about $7,000. Plan to attend a daily Mass at either 8:15 am or 5:30 pm and see our “New” chapel.

Parking lot and grounds lighting moving forward

Since the new parish outdoor lighting is more complex, engineering firms have been invited to review the requirement and make project recommendations. We expect to select an engineering firm in the next few weeks to start an exploratory study.
