Kinship Through Prayer and Music – video added

Music and prayer draws people together and these special bonds are evident in the sharing of musical talent in the Diocese of San Jose!   Singers from Our Lady of Peace and Church of the Resurrection have created the Cantemus Filipinas Chorale.  They have been joined, by the Saringhimig Singers, and other Bay Area vocalists, under the direction of George Hernandez, for holiday choral concerts.  At Church of the Resurrection, the concert took place on Friday, December 3, at 7:30 p.m. and the following night it was presented at Our Lady of Peace.  The proceeds from these concerts will help the fundraising efforts of both churches.

Two years ago a spiritual and musical bond began between singers here at Resurrection and Our Lady of Peace, as musicians from both choirs help out at each other’s churches.  These choir members just love to sing praises to the Lord through the ministry of music!  I had the pleasure of experiencing the 5 o’clock a.m. Simbang Gabi mass at Our Lady of Peace a few years ago.  It was an inspiration for me to be able to sing with them for this beautiful mass and to be a part of the welcoming and warm Filipino community.  Kinship through prayer and music!

When the organ at Our Lady of Peace was failing, Adele Ubaldo, pianist from Our Lady of Peace asked the Saringhimig Singers director to help produce a fundraising concert to benefit the organ fund at her church.  The singers asked me to help give them a rehearsal space on several occasions here at Resurrection.  They enjoyed singing in our beautiful church and later asked to give one of their concerts here.  The day our Capital Campaign was announced at mass, these generous singers immediately looked at me from their choir pews and said that they wanted to donate their proceeds to help our own facility fundraiser!

The director for this concert, George Hernandez founded the Saringhimig Singers in 1974 and under his leadership the group has won awards in a number of countries.
