Guillermo “Bill” Martinez was born on June 25, 1922, in Oriental Mindoro, Philippines. He finished Law in San Carlos University, Cebu City. He was born into a family of lawyers. His father was a Court of Appeals justice. It was his father’s dream that one day they would open a law firm together. But radio was his first love. Though he finished law school he never practiced. Instead, he followed his dream to be on local airwaves. Following that dream he joined DYBU in Cebu. From Cebu, he moved to Manila and joined Manila Broadcasting Company as the chief announcer of DZPI.

Through one love he met another, Maria Luisa (Nena) Perez. They were married on May 1, 1955 and would have completed 55 years of marriage this year.

In 1979, he migrated to the United States with his family and continued to raise their two sons, Ricardo and Victor. Through the years they have been blessed with 2 lovely daughters-in-law, Valerie and Liza; 5 grandchildren, Renei, Tricia, Kevin, Lizzie, Cara and a 6 year old great-granddaughter, Anabelle.

Bill was a simple man who surrounded himself with books and was always constantly reading. He loved music from the classics to jazz and Big Band and knew all the artists’ names. He was a good and loving husband, a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a good friend and will be sadly missed by all.
