Parking Lot Lights – In & Working

The installation of our parking lot lights was completed this afternoon and they went into regular service this evening (Friday, January 6th).

Installation of Parking Lot Lights to be Complete This Week

The installation of our long-awaited parking lot lights is almost complete. Although we had hoped that the lights would be in place in time for our Christmas Eve Masses, delays in the shipment of the poles to support our new lights resulted in our lighting contractor not being able to begin the installation of the poles and lights until today, Tuesday, January 3rd. Barring any unexpected complications, the lights should be in operation by this coming weekend.

When the project is completed we will have twenty LED light fixtures, each sitting on top of a 25-foot pole, lighting our entire parking lot – including the area behind Farana Center – significantly increasing the nighttime visibility of our parking area.

Parking Lot Lights: Installation Update

LATEST UPDATE: Friday, December 30th

The long-awaited poles for our parking lot lights have been received by our lighting contractor. The installation of the poles and lights will begin next Tuesday, January 3rd, and installation should be completed by the end of the week.

UPDATE: Tuesday, December 27th:

We have received word that there has been an additional delay of the shipment of the poles for our parking lot lights. The poles are now due to be delivered to our electrical contractor this coming Friday. The schedule for the start of installation in now Tuesday, 3 Jan 2012. We will keep you up to date on developments.

UPDATE: Wednesday, December 21st:

Contrary to the word we had received last week, the poles for our parking lot lights were not shipped to us last Thursday – apparently because of a problem with the trucking company that was to carry them. Consequently, we will not have our new parking lot lights in operation in time for Christmas. However, we have arranged with a lighting company to rent us temporary lights and poles to light our parking lot for our Masses this Friday and Christmas Eve.

We regret not being able to have our new lights in place in time for Christmas but take consolation in the fact that we will be able to provide lighting for our Christmas Eve Masses and the installation of the new lights will follow soon afterwards.

ORIGINAL POST (Dec. 16th):

The installation of our parking lot lights continues to progress. The light fixtures have already arrived. The poles, which were shipped yesterday, are expected to arrive next Monday (Dec. 19th) and the installation of the light fixtures and poles will begin on Tuesday.

Our lighting contractor has discovered the need for one extra step. It turns out that we are having a problem with the church’s main power switch and that problem will require the attention of PG&E before we will be able to send electrical power to our new lights. We hope to have that problem resolved by next week.

With all the trenching that was required for the installation of our new lights, the parking lot will need to be repaved and re-striped. That process will be scheduled for next spring or summer when we will have the warmer temperatures required for the paving work.

Advent Novena Masses

Resurrection and St. Cyprian Parishes will be celebrating a Novena of Advent Masses in a joint effort from Thursday, December 15th, through Friday, December 23rd. The novena (known in the Philippines as a tradition called ”Simbang Gabi”) is a series of Masses celebrated on nine consecutive nights to help in our spiritual preparation for Christmas – a time when we are invited to welcome Christ more fully into our lives.

The novena of Masses has been scheduled as a joint effort of Resurrection and St. Cyprian parishes with 6 of the Masses taking place here at Resurrection and 3 of the Masses taking place at St. Cyprian’s. (The weekend Masses during the novena will take place at our normal Saturday and Sunday afternoon Masses.) The times and places of the Masses are as follows:

Installation of Parking Lot Lights Nears Completion

During the past several weeks workmen have been busy doing the trenching, laying the wires and installing the 20 cylindrical, concrete bases that soon will be supporting the poles and LED light fixtures that will light up our parish parking lot. The electrical connections will be put in place during the next few days. The final step of installing the poles & light fixtures and turning the fixtures on will take place once the poles arrive. (The poles are being shipped from Los Angeles on Thursday, December 15th, and should be here for installation no later than the following Monday.

We are confident that the lights will be in place and working in plenty of time before Christmas. Check back here and we’ll keep you up to date on our progress.

Mike was diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) after complaining to his doctor about persistent abdominal pain. He underwent a bone marrow transplant and several transfusions of platelets and red blood cells in the following weeks of recovery.

Having leukemia has changed Mike’s focus in life. “Being so close to death made me realize how important time is,” Mike says. “So now I spend it doing things I enjoy and doing things that matter.”

Praying the New Mass Translation – The Spirituality of the Liturgy

When we pray the Mass, what are we really doing? To help guide our parish through the transition to the new translation of the Roman Missal which we will be using on the First Sunday of Advent, a well-known and respected theology teacher, liturgist and composer, Bob Hurd, is coming to Resurrection. Bob will help us explore the spirituality of the Mass in the light of the liturgical texts and new music and reflect on how they shed light on what it means to participate in the Mass and receive Holy Communion. This workshop is intended for all parishioners and anyone else who is interested. All are welcome! Bring a friend.

Mrs. Jacque Wright – our New Resurrection School Principal

As you may already have heard, Mrs. Jacque Wright is taking on the position of principal of Resurrection Parish School. Mrs. Wright has served the Resurrection community for the past twenty-two years. She began in Extended Care and after obtaining her teaching credential she moved into the classroom where she touched hundreds of students for twenty-one years in grades 2 – 4. Not only has she taught in the classroom, but she has been actively involved as Director of the Summer School program for twenty-two years, a Volleyball coach for the after-school athletics program, co-director of the school’s extensive Community Outreach program, a co-moderator for the Student Council, and a mentor teacher to new staff members beginning their teaching journey.

As Mrs. Wright takes on her new role she will be equipped not only with her teaching credential, which she has used so well, but also with a Masters degree in educational administration from Santa Clara University and a Certificate in Catholic Leadership, also from Santa Clara University.

Born in Southern California as the youngest of eight children, Mrs. Wright understands first-hand the meaning of teamwork and working together as a family unit and in a professional setting. It is her strong Catholic faith, and her skills to mediate, listen, be fair and just, as well as to nurture the students and staff that she brings to her new role. For example, on any given day when an ambulance drives by on Hollenbeck with its sirens on, you could look around the school grounds and see students in Mrs. Wright’s fourth grade class and older stop playing to make the sign of the cross and say a quick prayer for whomever the ambulance crew is destined to help. It is these values of compassion, prayer, and respect for all that Mrs. Wright instills in her students.

She and her husband have three children who attend Resurrection School thus her investment in this community strikes close to home. As we look towards the future of Resurrection School, the school and parish community are excited to have Mrs. Wright and her commitment to Catholic education at the helm of the school.

At the request of Bishop McGrath all parishes in the Diocese of San Jose will be focusing attention on our civic responsibilities by inviting parishioners to register for a newly created Catholic Legislative Network.
